We Really Need To Finish Our Fence

Porter is our Beagle and he's the luckiest dog I know. He's lucky because I am a big talker and I don't follow through with my threats. You see any chance he finds, he escapes. If a door isn't latched shut all the way, he will find it, and off he goes. Really, he can't help it...I hope. Every time he gets out, we drop what we are doing and go out on a massive dog hunt. To make things even more fun...he never comes when you call him when he's run away. So fun. Well, guess what I got to do this morning? Dumb dog escaped again. So, I got a nice workout chasing him down as he was chasing a cat. He runs faster than I do. Lucky for me, that stupid cat finally jumped over a fence and Porter stopped running. I'm really hoping that when we finish our back fence this spring, it will solve all of our escaping dog problems.
As far as me being all talk...every time this happens(it has happened 3 times since Christmas), I swear that this is the last time I'm looking for him...as I'm trying not to cry, of course. I'm usually muttering something along the lines of him not being worth the trouble or that if he wants out so bad, maybe the next time I won't stop him from running.
Like I said...He's lucky I'm a big talker.

Cup Cakes

Today I ran to the grocery store on my way home from work to just grab a couple of things to hold us over until I do my big shopping trip next week. You know how they say that you should never go grocery shopping while you are hungry. It's so true. I was hungry...everything looked so good. I was almost finished and doing so well when I happened across and end cap with these on it....

Dang it. I couldn't help myself. I haven't bought these cup cakes in years, but for some reason I was buying them today. I was justifying it by thinking that I could take one to work and eat it with my lunch over the next week or so. That was all the reason I needed. Then I got home and finally noticed the sell by date in the bottom right hand corner.

February 1, 2055.

Awesome. Not only did I treat myself to a little something tonight, but if I happen to forget about the box for whatever reason, and I don't find them for 46 years, I'll be just fine. Maybe I should stock up on boxes of these to go with my food storage.

Love Them

Have you seen this letterpress print of the Salt Lake Temple? It is by Cameron Moll, and I love it. I have never really seen a picture of the temple quite like this one. It is so simple, and yet so pretty. If only she made one of the Portland Temple, I would totally have to buy one. Maybe one of these days she will.

I Have Decided...

Mark and I should really spend more quality time together each night. It has been so easy to get caught up in doing our own thing or just playing the Wii and whatnot. So, as of last week, I have come up with a schedule to help us keep on track with our
daily quality activity.
Then I was thinking that maybe other people wanted to do the same thing, so I thought I would share our typical week of ideas with you. You can thank me later.

Monday Night: We really are getting into House. Love that show. Dr. House is probably one of my favorite characters on TV, ever.
We also love to watch 24. Jack's back, and we love it! I guess we need our weekly dose of torture or something.
Tuesday and Wednesday Night: American Idol is back...this show is great because it's the kind of show you can watch and you really don't have to think at all. I am ready for tryouts to be over, though. They get old pretty fast for me.
Wednesday Night: This is our night to watch Lost....will they really go back to the island? Who knows.

Thursday Nights: Of course we watch The Office. If you don't, you should. All the cool kids are doing it.Friday Nights: Well, this is our night to catch up on anything we missed throughout the week. You know how it goes...no matter how hard we try to plan out our quality time, sometimes things just come up. Thank goodness for our DVR. How did we ever live without it? It is running overtime now that good TV is back!

Anyways, I feel really good about all of the quality time we will be able to spend with each other now. I think we will be a better married couple because of it.

Checkmate

This is my nephew, Orion. He is probably the coolest 5 year old I know. Seriously. One of the things he is really into right now is chess. Well, Santa knew he wanted his own chess set, and boy did Santa deliver. He loves it. Any time we are at their house, he really wants to play. Now, I have never played chess. Ever. It has just never happened. So a couple of weeks ago, Orion taught me how to play. He had to keep reminding me how my pieces could move. Much to his delight, he totally beat me...twice. And despite what Mark or Steven thought, I really was trying my hardest to beat him. I was up at their house again this week and we played again. He still had to remind me how the pieces moved before we started. Then the most amazing thing happened...I won! I couldn't believe it. Neither could Orion, but he was a great sport about it. Of course when I came home that night, I had to tell Mark that I actually beat Orion in chess. Now, I know it sounds kind of funny to be so excited about beating a 5 year old in chess, but I don't care. I worked really hard for that win, and I am going to enjoy it!

He Wants...

He needs. He has to have one!
Just not now.
Mark and I went up to the Boat Show in Portland this weekend. It is really fun, and there are so many kinds of boats to see there. Now, I know that putting Mark in that environment could be risky. For me. Two years ago we went to the same boat show and we bought Mark a boat. Here it is. He was one happy guy that day. I must be the nicest, most amazing wife. Ever. Well, not this year friends. I am relieved to say we didn't buy a boat. But, we did come home with a lot of brochures and ideas for what Mark might want to get when we decide to actually buy one.
There was one, though, that he really would like. Here he is begging for one. That's fine by me. I can handle it. I'm as tough as nails. The pout and puppy dog face does nothing to phase me.
Maybe it didn't phase me because all I saw was this...
Yup, that's the price sheet that was on the window of that boat. Pretty affordable, right? Here he is again with the boat of his dreams. While I have to admit it is a really nice boat, and it was my favorite as well, I say why stop at there? Let's just go for it and get the $300,000 boat in the background of this picture.

Now we're talking.

I Used To Live In A Fishbowl

One thing I really want to do more this year is actually finish some projects. I know most everyone can relate on this one. You know, the projects that are just a great idea in my head, and then I never do them, or sometimes I actually start them and only complete some of it until I just stop for whatever reason. But this year, it's going to be different. I hope. I am already off to a great start. We have these huge windows in our living room that never had curtains on them. At night it was like living in a fish bowl...anyone walking or driving by had a nice view of us in our house. This weekend that all changed...No more living in a fish bowl for me. Now, to show of my crazy amazing sewing skills, I actually sewed the red stripe on the bottom of the curtains. Aren't you impressed. My mom will be so proud when she sees them. Our windows were too tall for cheap store bought curtains, and we are way to cheap to special order something like curtains. So, we bought curtains at the store, bought fabric, and then I went to town. Considering I didn't really have a plan when I started, they turned out pretty good. Next time I will actually kind of know what I am doing. We love how they look, and we love that people driving by at night don't know how much TV we watch or how much we play our Wii. That's private. People don't need to know that kind of thing.

Sometimes...

When it rains, it pours. Or so it feels anyways. It has been a rough couple of days at our house. Mark and I are both sick right now. We were around sick kids for all of our Christmas vacation and we brought it home with us. At first it wasn't that bad, but by the end of last week it got so much worse. We just bummed around the house all weekend. We skipped church on Sunday, because really, who wants to listen to us cough for three hours anyways. Plus, we were able to play a lot of Mario Kart, so it was kinda fun. We both were able to see the doctor yesterday. I have a touch of bronchitis and pink eye, and Mark was tested for strep, and he has a touch of pink eye as well. So, now I am on three prescriptions, and finally starting to feel a little better this morning. Happy day!
